The snapshot block is locked in: 3,459,350, expected August 24 at ~19:00 UTC. Any ZEC spendable in Ironwood at that height is eligible to vote, even if moved afterward. Sean Bowe published an FAQ this week and confirmed the mechanics: the vote runs on a dedicated chain using homomorphic encryption and private information retrieval (PIR) so no one can see how you voted, and it's already compatible with Keystone hardware wallets. Voting opens August 25 and runs through September 14.
Both ZODL and Vizor shipped support ahead of the deadline — ZODL 3.10.0 added coinholder polling with Ironwood support, and Vizor is also confirmed. Some of them only help 20%, some of them 350%, but there are so many of them they compound and produce unbelievable performance improvements across the stack." Two concrete results have been demonstrated so far, neither shipped yet: Zakura measured a 15x improvement on the Sinsemilla hash function with no GPU acceleration (would cut sync and validation time for full nodes, miners, and wallets if it lands), and separately adapted libsecp256k1's modular inversion technique to the Pasta curves for a 4.6x gain. Zooko independently confirmed the Sinsemilla benchmark, calling it "a neat technique leveraging a cryptographic security reduction" that he thinks "will actually make UX better for Zcash users" — future tense, since none of this has been released yet. The gains borrow from outside research as well as Valar Group's own work, and ebfull noted the improvements make it easier to modernize rand crate usage across Zcash's cryptography. Today, submitting a transaction through lightwalletd or Zaino lets an attacker who controls or watches the indexer link your IP address directly to your transactions and amounts — no other privacy defense helps once that link exists. Shielded Labs, Caution, Zec.rocks, and Stardust are deploying zero-indexer, a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) enclave service that breaks this link by batching requests from multiple operators and delaying broadcast. It's part of Zero, Shielded Labs' open-source enterprise Zcash infrastructure suite, and is designed to be a drop-in replacement wallets can route through today.
