Ironwood Mainnet Activation Locked: July 28, Block 3,428,143

The date is set. Sean Bowe confirmed the Ironwood mainnet activation height on July 9, with ZODL, ZF, Shielded Labs, and Tachyon all publicly committed. Ironwood replaces the compromised Orchard pool with a formally-verified shielded pool and introduces the v6 transaction format. Formal verification means the protocol's mathematical core has been proven free of undetectable counterfeiting bugs — a first for any privacy cryptocurrency. Zebra 6.0.0 (stable) shipped July 10 with full support. Tachyon's Formal Verification Thread Goes Viral

Project Tachyon posted a thread explaining how Ironwood's circuits are being formally verified to rule out all undetectable counterfeiting bugs. It became the highest-engagement Zcash tweet in months. Arjun Khemani quote-tweeted with a side-by-side of Bitcoin and Zcash on counterfeit detection, calling Ironwood "a historic feat for private money." @crypto_banter and @aixbt_agent both covered the upgrade for their large audiences. The Single-Bit Problem

Imagine a system where every transaction is private — except one bit leaks. Just one. Whether the amount is above or below $100.

That single bit seems harmless. But over thousands of transactions, it becomes a classifier. "This person regularly spends above $100 on Thursdays." "This merchant receives high-value payments from three wallets." Chain enough single bits together and you reconstruct the picture you thought was hidden.

This is why partial privacy is a contradiction. Systems that hide the sender but reveal the amount, or hide the amount but timestamp the transaction to the second, aren't 99% private — they're a puzzle with one missing piece. The missing piece is the one the adversary has all the time in the world to find.

Zcash encrypts everything: sender, receiver, amount, memo — all shielded by default. The only thing visible is that a transaction happened. No single bits to collect. No puzzle to reassemble. That's what Ironwood's formally-verified pool is protecting — not just today's transactions, but the guarantee that the math itself can't leak what the protocol promises to hide.
